I worked through this course partially as a break from steeping my brain in coding concepts, and partially to contribute to a broader skillset. It was largely an overview of technologies a Systems Administrator would use:

Topics covered included:
  • Switches, routers and firewalls
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Understanding RAID
  • Overview of DNS
  • Troubleshooting methodologies
  • Servers and virtual machines
  • Wi-Fi and IPv6
  • Compiling vs interpreting source code

By this time I was no longer thinking of only writing code for a vocation. I had begun upgrading laptops and building PCs during the lockdowns in 2020 and had just built my second home PC. I was thinking of a broader career in Tech, and knowing more about how it all works together was going to give me a stronger starting point. It would also facilitate me getting practice on my own machines at home, networking them from behind different routers and across operating systems and administering my own systems.
